In a nutshell essential oils are the juices of plants.

To get the oil out and into a bottle the plants are either squished (citrus), or distilled (pretty much anything not citrus).

Now, good essential oil companies will rigorously test the quality of the oil before it goes anywhere near a bottle (unfortunately many organisations which sell oils skip this part).

How much effort an organisation puts into the testing procedure will determine the effectiveness of the essential oil to do anything positive to your body.

So, make sure you always thoroughly check out the company who are supplying your oils.

Importantly, whether an oil is organic is not a determining factor on oil quality or it’s ability to help your body.

What you are looking for is 100% pure oils.

Not, stating they’re 100% pure – but actually only containing 10% pure oil (this is the legal limit).

I mean 100% guarantee that the only thing in the bottle is the oil on the label.

No synthetic products at all.

Don’t get me wrong – essential oils which are not 100% pure can be a great edition to the smell of your home.

They’re just not going to do anything positive to your body & after all the title of this blog post is ‘How do essential oils heal the body’.

Now for the science bit:

Essential oils work on a cellular level (they penetrate the cell wall) and will work with your body’s own natural healing mechanisms to promote positive changes in your body.

Getting your head around this is super important because there is a lot of miscommunication out there.

Essential oils are not magic.

You can’t rub a drop of an essential oil into your skin and ‘poof’ your chronic ailment disappears.

Much the same as pharmaceuticals you will need to use an oil for a while to give your body the opportunity to undo all the things which have been going wrong.

However, unlike pharmaceuticals you shouldn’t need to use an oil for life.

The essential oil kick starts your natural healing process and after a while, well, you end up being healed.

Your body has phenomenal healing powers all of its own.

The only issue is we’re usually not giving ourselves the best opportunity to get healthy.

In order to give the essential oil and your body the best opportunity to heal you’ll need to tackle these 3 things as well:

  1. Diet
  2. Exercise
  3. Sleep

These three things enable your body to heal.

The essential oils can help speed up the process.

BUT – if you have a poor diet, don’t exercise and are not getting enough sleep then you will be fighting a loosing battle.

Take one step at a time & make changes slowly so that you can keep it up for life.

After all – what’s the point in putting a lot of effort in to heal only to go and give up after a couple of months?

Have a great day & I’ll catch up with you soon!

Best wishes, Katie.
