I’m sorry I really did just say the dreaded ‘E’ word.

I mean its bad enough for all you guys that I spend all day throwing around the ‘mental health’ bomb.

But, to jump on here and use the ‘e’ word well I’ve definitely stooped to a whole other level of ‘in-your-face’!

I did say the other day that I was embarking on a weight loss routine & while you can achieve a lot by changing your diet (I actually lost 3lbs from doing this last week – well done me!), and if you want to check out the post on ‘curbing your sugar cravings’ >>click here<< but make sure you come back!

I’m serious this post is super important!

The thing is you can only ever get so far with dieting, cutting out sugars or upping the protein in your diet.

& I promise I’ll be doing an ‘oils for weight loss’ post next week (I’m still testing out their effectiveness).

Mainly because when you start to seriously restrict what you’re eating your body starts to struggle.

You get tired easy, break out in spots and often start to smell (I know I’ve heard really odd things about detoxes!).

It may sound really counter intuitive but doing exercise gives you more energy.

Sometimes, it’s because you know you need to eat certain foods before heading to the gym so you don’t pass out on the treadmill in front of that really hot instructor …

Mostly, its because you want to tone up all the wobbly bits which are going to be more pronounced as you start to shed pounds in other areas.

exercise - make it easy.pngFor me – my face and waist gets thinner first (leaving behind a great big Homer Simpson style tire – if you haven’t seen that episode it’s probably best you don’t because you may never look at me the same again…)

Anyway back to the task at hand – making exercise easy.

Yeah, I really do mean easy.

Oh, and hyper effective!

Because who wants to work harder than they really have to?

Oils to Increase Your Metabolism:

So, why would you want to increase your metabolism?

Well, ‘metabolism’ is the process in which your body turns nutrients into substances the body can use in the cells as energy or to create new cell structures as needed.

What does that mean?

Basically if you use the following oils before your workout (about 30 mins before), you will increase your bodies ability to take the nutrients out of the food you’re eating, turn it into energy and thus enable you to have more energy at the gym.

The more energy you have at the gym, the easier it is to do your work out.

Plus, you’ll probably be able to put more effort in and voila more calories are burnt with technically no extra effort on your part!

Oils to use:

  • Clove (A)
  • Oregano (A, T)

How to use them:

You can either diffuse them before your workout (A) or you can apply to the bottom of your feet (T).

It only takes 30 seconds for the oil constituents to get into your blood stream and within 20 minutes the oil will be affecting every cell of your body (and I truly mean every cell).

So, doing it 30 minutes before your workout will definitely give your body time to get supercharged!

Oils for Aches & Pains:

The other thing that always makes workouts hard is the sheer pain you go through the next day when you’re trying to get out of bed, get up the stairs, or drive to work…

Especially if you’ve not been for a while.

Before I get onto the oils for aches and pains I just need to dispel a myth about ‘no pain – no gain’ which seems to fly around gyms.

There are different types of pain.

If you are in pain while working out – STOP.

Seriously.

No amount of oil is ever going to help your body repair broken bones, muscles or torn ligaments.

Pain is your body’s way of telling you that something isn’t right.

exercise - cant bend down.pngBut, it also tells you that you’ve used a muscle you’ve ignored so it’s just getting itself back into the groove of things.

The second type of pain – is when your body is performing the natural repair process and will wear off.

But, if like me you’d rather not wait until lunchtime before you can bend down without wincing because you slightly overdid your core…

Here’s what you can do to help your body get it’s mojo back quicker than it could alone

Oils to use:

  • Marjoram (T)
  • White Fir (T)
  • Eucalyptus (T)

How to use them:

Continuing with the easy theme – just rub the oil into the muscle/joints (T) your trying to soothe both before and after your work out.

Make sure you have 2 hours in between because the oils stay in your system for 2 hours & there’s no point wasting the oily goodness is there?

So, there you have it.

Oils to make your routine more efficient and oils to help your body when it’s feeling tired and sore from the shock of you hitting the gym 🙂

I’m just messing with you.

Have a great Friday & weekend & I’ll be back tomorrow (thanks to the schedule meltdown) and I’m going to be looking at how I stop the bleeding when I cut myself shaving after using a rubbish razor!

Catch you soon –
