We all want it and often we just can’t seem to get it.

Not getting to sleep sucks.

A lack of sleep makes even the jolliest of people hulk out without even meaning to.

It’s vital for us.

Even though the scientists are still quibbling over the reasons why sleep is so vital they all agree on one thing – if we don’t get enough of it our brains turn to mush (not literally figuratively) but eventually we go nuts and even die.

I know, as if we didn’t have enough to worry about killing us – not getting 40 winks decided it was going to join the party.

OK, in all seriousness you and I are probably not so sleep deprived we’re about to drop dead (although I know some new mums who may disagree with me…).

Back to the point in hand – how are you going to ensure you can get it when you need it (and when it is being so elusive).

Like everything- cheat.

Cheat your mind so that it ramps up the melatonin production and puts you out.

Now, I have to interject a little before moving on because while I alluded to you going to sleep like Cinderella please don’t get upset when you are woken by your alarm and not prince charming. Even if you do have your very own prince charming you’re more likely to be woken up by them bashing the snooze button than a flash of romance.

sleep - whats stopping you.pngIn order to get to sleep you’ll need to do a little bit of digging.

You need to work out what might be stopping you sleep.

Are you worried, are you hormonal, are you overtired…

This is super important because depending on your answers will determine which is the second oil in the combo for you.

Here’s the deal – lavender essential oil is a must regardless of what your struggling with.

If you’re hormonal use either clary sage or ylang ylang, if you are stressed out reach for the wild orange and if you are overtired go for cedarwood.

Now, the next step is to get these oils together and rubbed into your big toe and arm your diffuser with the same combo & topped up with water.

Essential oils stay in your system for about 2 hours so you’ll need to be able to reach over and hit the ‘go’ button on your diffuser when you wake up.

I usually have mine set for a 2 hour cycle so I get 2 (on feet) + 2 (diffuser on) + 2 (oils still in system when diffuser is off) = 6 hours.

6 hours may not seem like a lot but when you’re having one of those nights when you just can’t seem to shut down 6 hours is the same as 6 days!

Doing this for a few nights and weeks will help to reset your sleep cycle so you can get back into a rhythm and not need it – except for those odd occasions when life happens to kick you in the teeth!
